Academics Stand Against Poverty Visualisation

As a freelance developer for Outlandish Co-operative, I created a data visualisation with D3.js that displays the Poverty Audit of UK Political Parties Manifestos for the July 2024 election. I worked directly with our client, Academics Stand Against Poverty, to best illustrate the work they do to score each party on topics that pertain to fighting poverty in the UK.

According to Academics Stand Against Poverty,

We've analysed the policies in the 2024 manifestos of the Conservatives, Labour, Reform, Plaid Cymru, and the Liberal Democrats across 9 key topics. Our academics have assessed how confident they are that the party policies in their area of expertise will enable British society to flourish. The radar chart above illustrates the scores in terms of balance across each issue. Clicking on an issue reveals how each party scored on that particular topic.

In design of the chart we went with a visualisation that would be quick to build and could display and toggle a lot of information over a single space. The radar chart gives a sense of 'well-roundedness' a polifical party might have towards a single issue.
